Hospital Support

What is the Hospital Support Service?

Cardiff Institute for the Blind has set up a service to support patients attending the eye clinic at the University Hospital of Wales at Heath Park. Our hospital support services tries to be there exactly when people need a friendly face or a helping hand to support them during diagnoses of sight loss.

What does the service offer?

The Hospital Support team ensure that patients attending the eye clinic are given support, information and reassurance in a non-obtrusive way.

Are volunteers given any training?

Yes – Hospital Support volunteers need to be good listeners. They are all given special awareness training and support from our full-time staff.

Will I have my expenses paid?

Yes, we pay your expenses for travel to and from the hospital.

How often will I be needed?

That’s up to you, but for the Hospital Support service we prefer volunteers who are able to give a regular commitment.
