What is there/How is it Accessible?

Screen 1 has audio description facilities. This screen is right by the tickets and sweets office on the second floor, so staff are always nearby which is useful, and it is always the same screen which you will use, so it is easier to get to know the lay out. The toilets are at the end of the corridor on the left as you come out of the screen.

As it is only screen one that currently has the facility, it is the newer films that are likely to be available on audio description.

Guide dogs are welcome.

A free companion ticket is available if you show a CEA card. This lasts one year and costs £6. https://www.ceacard.co.uk/apply

What to do

Check the website (www.myvue.com/cinema/cardiff/whats-on) for any films with audio description. On the top right-hand side of the page there is an option to Filter All Films and Events. On the filter page there is then an option to filter by screening type, select Audio-Description. This will then give you a list of Audio described performances.

You can either buy tickets (including a companion ticket) in advance or on the day.

If they are allocating a seat, make sure it is near the middle of the room for best AD reception and there is easy access for a member of staff to come and check that the headset is working properly.

Collect a headset from the ticket office.

Check that it is charged and you know how it works and which channel it should be on. It is always wise to ask for a spare in case there is a problem with one.

Note that the audio description does not start until the film itself begins. Ask the member of staff if s/he can show you to your seat so s/he knows where you are sitting and ask him/her to pop in at the start of the film to check it is working to save you having to go out and find someone to come and sort it out.

Costs

If you have a CEA card, you are entitled to have a free companion ticket. https://www.ceacard.co.uk/apply

CEA cards can be applied for online with proof of a disability such as a vision impairment, and last one year. It costs £6.

You can book online at Vue with a CEA card as well as buying tickets over the counter.

How to get there

Vue cinema is on Wood Street in the centre of town near central station.

By train: turn left out of the front of central station and keep left, following the line of the wall. The crossing will be just to your right in front of the university building on your right.

By bus, walk along Wood street towards the river. After passing the BBC building and the university school of journalism on your left-hand side, cross over Wood Street at the crossing.
Vue is the building directly ahead of you. The entrance is on the left-hand side of the recessed part of the building at the top of a short flight of steps. The ramp is slightly to your right and goes left up the front of the building to the doors to Vue at the end. Inside the door there is a ramp on the right and a couple of steps on the left.

Either take the escalator or the lift/stairs. A security guard is stationed in the foyer at the bottom of the escalators and can help if required.
Escalator – This is ahead and slightly to your left. The up escalator is the one on the left. Go up one flight and then turn hard right up the next flight to the second floor. Turn hard left and you will find the tickets and sweets counter on your right. Watch the pillars!

Lift or stairs – Turn hard left after going up the steps inside the main entrance. Go through the first door on your left which is just before the windows, into a dark hallway. The lift is a couple of steps ahead on your right and the stairs can be accessed through a door which is slightly recessed just past the lift in the far right hand corner. The lift has good tactile markings. Level 2 is the second button up on the right. Ground is the bottom button on the right.

When you get to level 2, head straight out of the lift through the left hand set of doors; turn right and follow the wall round as it turns to the left until you get to the tickets and sweets counter which will be on your right.
