How My Light Is Spent
How My Light Is Spent
Friday 18th November – Saturday 19th November 2022
Seligman Theatre, Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff
Company of Sirens is working with Sight Life Wales to perform ‘How My Light Is Spent’ at Chapter from the 16th – 20th August. It’s a production which is described as “What lies beyond the purely visual?”
Nine people with sight loss find themselves in the wood. As night begins to fall, they gather together, light a fire, and begin to tell one another stories. Who or what can lead them back to safety?
Featuring live music, film and with audio description woven into the performance, nine members of Sight Life Wales recount their experiences of lockdown. Their stories are funny, sad, and deeply moving, as they find themselves isolated by both the pandemic and their own sight loss and seek comfort in the natural world.
The production is produced by Company of Siren and directed by Chris Durnall. Over fourteen years, Company of Sirens have produced a large body of work that includes premieres of vital contemporary plays. They’ve worked with some of Wales and the UK’s most exciting writers and delivered projects dealing with issues of autism, sight loss and knife crime. Their last project Stone the Crows was described in the press as “A powerful and transformative theatre experience”.
