Dr. Sarah Sparke from Cardiff Council will be hosting a session at Sight Life on 14th January about the Council’s Workplace Parking Levey Consultation.

Sarah Said:

“I will be outlining the council’s consultation: Workplace Parking Levy - Cardiff Council
And will explain why it will likely affect everyone – residents, commuters, and visitors.
So having your say is important.

The survey presents 7 different road user charge options (e.g. something like London’s ULEZ, or a toll road or….), and asks
Which would be YOUR First, Second and Third choice?
What do you think of the Council’s current preferred option (the Workplace Parking Levy)?
Where do YOU think the money raised should be spent? (e.g. improving public transport, active travel, air quality, focus on particular parts of the city, etc)

The different charging options would raise different amounts, and that would have a knock-on effect on what transport improvements are possible.”

The session is hosted in Sight Life’s Activity Room from 10 am until 12 noon.

What is a Workplace Parking Levy?
A Workplace Parking Levy option typically has the following key characteristics:
• Employers that provide workplace parking would be legally obliged to license the parking places used for work purposes.
• Each employer receives an annual charge based on an assessment of the maximum number of liable parking places used.
• Some employers may qualify for discounts or exemptions subject to criteria to be considered in the full business case work.

Earlier this week our intrepid Ramble Group were out and about enjoying the autumnal sunshine at our last Ramble of the year.
We travelled by VEST Community Transport to Parc Cwm Darran, Deri.
We began our walk along the old railway line near Bargoed Station and within minutes it was as if we were deep into the countryside. It was very peaceful as we walked along the path. We could hear the birds, the sound of the stream and of course the rustle of leaves underfoot.
The trees along each side of the path were very colourful with the leaves changing to a variety of colours from deep red to golden yellow.
We stopped at some interesting points along the way, finding an old railway platform, an interesting bridge, the only one of it's kind in Wales, and a memorial for the Miners too.
At Parc Cwm Darran we enjoyed lunch at the cafe, then set off around the Park lake to the waterfall before travelling back to Cardiff.
Everyone really enjoyed the walk and we will be eager to start the rambles again in 2027.
