Sight Life Volunteering opportunities  

Administration / reception 

Providing administrative support in the office, or in your own home, making telephone calls and assisting with general office duties. We are also looking for volunteers to assist with reception duties and meeting and greeting our Resource Centre.

Befriending  

Befriending offers supportive, reliable relationships through volunteer befrienders to people who might otherwise be socially isolated.Befriending often provides people with a new direction in life, opens up a range of activities and leads to increased self-esteem and self confidence.Visiting someone in their home to help read mail, have a chat and a cuppa, help with shopping, or just go out for a nice walk.

Contact Line 

Staying connected with our service users by telephoning them on a regular basis to check on their wellbeing, provide information and have a friendly chat.

Driving 

Being able to get from out and about is crucial for maintaining a healthy, happy, active and enjoyable lifestyle. Our volunteer drivers offer a lifeline to many of our service users as they transport them from their homes to one of our many activities in the community.

Fundraising 

There are so many ways you can fundraise for us, and help us to continue to change the lives of people living with sight loss. You could organise an event, i.e., coffee morning, quiz night, pool, or skittles competition, sponsored walk or help with administration or bucket collections. or why not challenge yourself or try something new, maybe take part in a 5K,10K half or full marathon event!

Health and wellbeing 

To support people with sight loss to live healthy and active lives. Health and Wellbeing Volunteers transform the lives of people by supporting and empowering them to live the life they want, be healthy and active and stay connected to their communities. This could include going for a stroll in the local park, cycling, attending a keep fit session or gym or attending a social group.

Information giver / Visual Awareness Trainer

Having gained enough knowledge through either personal experience or Sight Life training, you are able to direct, or give information to potential service users and/or their families, friends and carers. This could be face to face in a local community setting or via the telephone.

IT Digital Support

We are looking for volunteers to provide support to customers in our Resource and Technology Centre, in the local community and in their own homes, to identify their IT needs, and help them understand and use the latest technology and a range of devices including mobile phones, tablets and laptops, to ensure they are connected to family and friends and the outside world.

Social and Support Group Volunteer

Are you friendly and outgoing? We’re looking for volunteers to assist with social and special interest group meetings for blind and partially sighted people. We need you to provide general assistance and support at our activity events.
