Trustee recruitment

2 January 2019

If you would like to make a significant difference to thousands of lives, why not become a Cardiff Institute for the Blind (CIB) board member or co-opted member.

We support around 4,000 blind and partially sighted people across South Wales and are at a really exciting point in our 153 year history, as we are consulting on a name change and deciding how to diversify our income streams through commercial opportunities.

We particularly keen to hear from people with one or more of the following skills and experiences:

  • Business start-up(s) or management/leadership in the commercial sector
  • Fundraising
  • Marketing and communications, particularly digital and branding
  • Charity and/or corporate governance
  • Safeguarding
  • Information governance

Training and support will be provided and we welcome applications from people with no experience of being a trustee or board member, as long as they have the skills required to contribute to the effectiveness of the Board and CIB as an organisation.

A commitment ranging between five to ten days a year is likely to be needed, usually with four board meetings taking place during the day.  The appointment is subject to satisfactory references and an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Scheme check.

There is currently no term of office but positions are reviewed by both parties after the first six months.  Positions are unremunerated but expenses for travel may be claimed.

We will also consider co-opted members for those who wish to make a specific or time bound contribution; such as providing advice and support on developing commercial income streams or enhancing our marketing and communications; without wishing to take on formal and legal responsibilities.

To apply, please write or email our Director Kieran Harris ([email protected]) and outline why you are interested in the post and what relevant skills and experiences you feel you can bring. You can also call our Director on 07881 908 132 if you want to find out more.
