Task-masked: Terms and Conditions

This square version of this logo reads: Sight Life presents... Task-masked. A fun team challenge with a different perspective. The Sight Life icon is above the work Task-Masked, wearing a red blindfold.

Event Terms and Conditions

By registering for Task-Masked, all participants agree to the following Terms & Conditions.

  1. Eligibility

  • All participants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Teams must consist of two participants. (You can enter multiple teams of 2 or request a partner from the general entry).
  • The person registering (the Team Captain) confirms they have the authority to register on behalf of both team members and that both participants have read and agree to these Terms & Conditions.
  1. Registration

  • A £25 non-refundable team registration fee is required to secure your team’s place.
  • Please note that places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Registration is confirmed only once payment has been received.
  1. Task Zero – Fundraising

Task Zero begins as soon as you register. You are encouraged to use your imagination and be proactive in this area.

  • Every team is expected to raise a minimum of £100 for Sight Life before the event. Rasing more is encouraged as it allows Sight Life to provide more support and will help with your overall points total for this event if you are in the top 5 fundraisers.
  • Your £25 registration fee contributes towards this minimum fundraising target, meaning teams must raise a minimum of £75 in additional sponsorship before event day. (We can help you with ideas and wording – please contact us directly).
  • Teams should bring or pay their final fundraising total in accordance with the instructions provided by Sight Life.
  • Bonus points will be awarded according to the published fundraising scale.
  • The five highest fundraising teams will receive additional bonus points before the competition begins.
  • Sight Life reserves the right to verify fundraising totals before allocating bonus points.
  1. The Competition

  • Teams will compete in a series of timed challenges across Cardiff city centre before a live Grand Finale.
  • Scores will be awarded based on challenge performance together with any bonus fundraising points.
  • Event marshals will record timings and scores.
  • The Event Director’s decision on all timings, scoring and results is final.
  • No correspondence regarding results will be entered into.
  1. Participant Responsibilities

All participants agree to:

  • Follow all instructions given by event staff, marshals and volunteers.
  • Wear any safety equipment provided when instructed.
  • Behave responsibly and respectfully towards fellow participants, volunteers, members of the public and venue staff.
  • Respect all venues and equipment used during the event.
  • Avoid deliberately obstructing or interfering with another team’s progress.
  • Immediately inform an event marshal if they feel unwell, unsafe or unable to continue.

Sight Life reserves the right to remove any participant or team whose behaviour is considered unsafe, abusive, offensive or likely to spoil the enjoyment or safety of others.

  1. Safety

Participant safety is our highest priority. Although Task-Masked is designed to offer a fun insight into some of the challenges experienced by people living with sight loss, all activities are carefully planned and risk assessed.

Participants agree to:

  • Take reasonable care of themselves and others.
  • Follow all safety instructions.
  • Remove their blindfold immediately if instructed to do so by an event marshal.
  • Stop any activity immediately if requested by an organiser.

Failure to follow safety instructions may result in disqualification.

  1. Health Declaration

By participating, each participant confirms that they are medically fit to take part.

If a participant has a medical condition, injury, accessibility requirement or any other circumstance that may affect their participation, they should notify Sight Life before the event so that reasonable adjustments can be considered where possible.

  1. Assumption of Risk

Participation in Task-Masked is entirely voluntary.

Participants acknowledge that taking part in a physical team challenge involves an element of inherent risk.

By participating, each team accepts responsibility for its own actions and agrees to take part at its own risk.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions limits or excludes Sight Life’s liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot legally be excluded under UK law.

  1. Photography & Filming

Task-Masked is a public fundraising event.

Photography and video recording will take place throughout the event.

By attending, participants and spectators consent to photographs and video footage being used by Sight Life for marketing, fundraising, publicity and promotional purposes across print, digital, social media and other communication channels.

Anyone with concerns about being photographed should notify the event team before the event begins.

  1. Spectators

Spectator tickets are available for the live Grand Finale. These can be purchased at bit.ly/Task-Masked-tickets.

All spectators attend at their own risk.

Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.

  1. Event Changes

Sight Life reserves the right to:

  • amend or substitute tasks;
  • alter routes or venues;
  • adjust timings;
  • change the event format;
  • postpone or cancel the event where necessary due to weather, safety concerns or circumstances beyond its reasonable control.

Should the event be cancelled by Sight Life, participants will be contacted as soon as reasonably possible.

  1. Refunds & Withdrawals

  • Team registration fees are non-refundable.
  • If a team withdraws after registering, the registration fee will not be refunded.
  • Any fundraising or donations made to Sight Life are non-refundable.
  • If the event is cancelled by Sight Life, registration fees will be refunded unless participants choose to donate them to Sight Life.
  1. Data Protection

Personal information collected during registration will only be used to administer the event and communicate with participants.

Sight Life will process all personal data in accordance with its Privacy Policy and applicable UK data protection legislation.

  1. Acceptance

  • agree to abide by them;
  • understand the nature of the event;
  • agree to participate voluntarily and at their own risk;
  • agree to follow all instructions given by event organisers and volunteers.
  1. Fair Play

Task-Masked is designed to be a fun, fair and inclusive competition. Teams must not deliberately seek to gain an unfair advantage, tamper with equipment, obstruct other teams or disregard the spirit of the event. Event organisers reserve the right to issue time penalties, deduct points or disqualify any team found to be acting unfairly or unsafely.

And finally…

Task-Masked is about much more than competition.

It’s about teamwork, creativity, friendly rivalry and gaining a different perspective on the everyday experiences of people living with sight loss.

Bring your competitive spirit, your sense of humour and your willingness to think differently.

Good luck… your first task starts now!
