Gifts in Wills: A Lasting Legacy of Support for People Living with Sight Loss

At Sight Life, we’re dedicated to helping blind and partially sighted people across South Wales live independent, active, and fulfilled lives. For more than 160 years, our charity has offered practical support, social connection, advice, and confidence to thousands of people adjusting to life with sight loss.

Many of the services we provide today exist thanks to the kindness of those who choose to leave a gift in their Will.

Why Consider Leaving a Gift in Your Will?

If Sight Life has touched your life, or the life of someone you care about, leaving a legacy gift is a powerful way to say thank you. Your support helps ensure that future generations can continue to benefit from life‑changing services such as:

  • Support groups that reduce isolation
  • Guidance on daily living and technology
  • Help with employment, hobbies, and staying independent
  • Friendly voices at the end of the phone when things feel overwhelming

Every gift—large or small—makes a meaningful difference. We are deeply grateful for all legacy donations, whether they are financial gifts, specific items, or more unusual bequests. Each one helps us offer vital support to people when they need it most.

Why Your Legacy Matters More Than Ever

Every day, people across South Wales face the fear, trauma, and isolation that can come with losing their sight. At Sight Life, we work tirelessly to ensure no one faces that journey alone — but delivering this life‑changing support costs £1,600 every single day.

Your gift in your Will can help ensure that support never stops.

The Reality of Sight Loss in Our Communities

  • One in five people will experience some form of sight loss in their lifetime — and cases are rising sharply, with a 30% increase expected in South Wales by 2030.
  • People with sight loss are 2–3 times more likely to be depressed, and 43% experience significant depressive symptoms.
  • Adults with sight loss are five times more likely to report poor general health, and nearly twice as likely to be inactive, increasing loneliness and isolation.
  • The financial burden is staggering — the annual cost of sight loss in Cardiff alone exceeds £126 million.

Your gift in your Will, no matter how big or small can help ensure that support never stops.
